Database Administration

The Distributed Physical DBA team provides end to end support and administration of databases in our client Dev, Test, Staging and Prod environments. In addition, team provides support for the installation and maintenance of the DBMS software in supported environments.

  • Providing consulting on DBMS utility data loads.
  • Reviewing physical database changes prior to implementation and assessing impacts to production on a physical level; making adjustments or recommendations to meet standards following service provider best practices, as appropriate.
  • Maintaining DBMS system administration IDs.
  • Providing database technical support.
  • Installing, upgrading, and applying patches (including security patches).
  • Maintaining DBMS software to client specified standards and supported release/version levels.
  • Implementing and monitoring appropriate alerts for database-related activities (for example, available space, memory utilization, connection pool).
  • Providing responses to assigned alerts.
  • Installing upgrades and applying patches to third-party vendor tools used by the DBA to provide services.
  • Participating in planning for changes in the size of databases due to business growth or reduction and applications development projects.
  • Leading problem determination efforts for production DBMS-related problems.
  • Providing data to hardware and software architects, if available and when requested.
  • Maintaining the integrity of the database(s), which may include:
    • Backing up the database, including hot/warm backups, replication, and so forth.
    • Periodically reorganizing database objects
    • Performing database consistency checks
    • Updating database statistics
    • Installing/configuring/maintaining(patches/PTFs) the DBMS client on supported servers
    • Maintaining DBMS internal security
